Blackburn with Darwen Food Alliance

Where eating, cooking, growing & accessing good food is open to all

Who Are We & What Do We Do?

Blackburn with Darwen Food Alliance began in 2018 and whilst operates as an independent charity, works closely with Blackburn with Darwen Public Health, local businesses, organisations and the public to become healthier and more sustainable.

We started off as an evolution the the Food Bank so that when people would come out of crisis, they could be given resources to become self sustainable. Food poverty became the focus during covid and since then we have evolved our workstreams. We cover community skills in cooking/growing, reducing food waste, improving our local supply chains, reducing food poverty, eating wholesome, educating communities and celebrating our diverse food culture. We are a people and partner inspired movement, which means everyone has a place and role for collaborative change.

In 2022, the Food Alliance on behalf of Blackburn with Darwen was awarded The Bronze Award that met the national standards from Sustainable Food Places Network and we are gradually working towards Silver over the next few years.

Each year we work with our members, working groups and funders to develop our 12 month action plan. You can find our action plan for 2024/2025 below (PDF 171KB)
